Wow… we did it. Our 3rd IGD. And when I say “we” I realllyyyy mean WE. This couldn’t have happened without our phenomenal hosts who volunteered their time and energy to creating gorgeous, safe gatherings. And to our attendees, who prioritised being there! We’re all still digesting how incredible it was to gather IRL.

1. Fear of irrelevance can drive burnout - Ellie Pyemont

Her career arc is the perfect demonstration: police detective (12 years), then deliberately moving every 2-3 years across legal tech, retirement communities, business ownership, refugee resettlement, swimming instruction. She found the thread (understanding team dynamics) that ran through every sector, and each role taught her something that applied to the next.

2. Don’t fit the template - Sakshi Shukla

Working across AI, sleep systems, insurance, neuroscience, and communities gives her deeper empathy and storytelling ability than any single niche ever could. She talks about "transferable skills as the gold that all of us are sitting on." Not fitting templates is her competitive advantage. She shows that breadth compounds learning.

3. Environments are disabling, not people - Zahra Hedges

Her pattern of building new things and fixing broken ones across charity, private, and public sectors shows how generalists thrive in ambiguity and change. She can see problems from multiple angles because she's lived in different contexts. Her diverse experience is what makes her valuable as a consultant.

4. Keep your hobbies or lose yourself - Rachel Fenton

"When the world is unpredictable and in a state of ambiguity and wonkiness, that's where you have to be adaptable. And that's where generalists are gonna thrive." The thread in Rachel’s career is curiosity (digging in soil as archeologist, digging through accounts as accountant), and that curiosity let her navigate constant change without burning out.
